Mr. Kurian Varnasala was born in Thrissur, the cultural capital of Kerala in India. Now he has been living in Cochin for the past 15 years with his family. From his early childhood Kurian Varnasala showed an intense affinity towards drawings and paintings and it blossomed to its fullest when he joined Thrissur Government Occupational Institute after the academic studies. The training at the institute inspired him to take it as his career. This decision was wise and proved itself when he made his debut as an Art director for a film in 1973. Subsequently he turned into direction and has associated with film maestro Mr. I.V Sasi.

Also he worked with other important film personalities like Kamalahasan, K.S. Sethumadhavan, Bharathan, Padmarajan, K.G George, A. Vincent, etc. The experience he thus achieved led him to the direction and production of two films independently viz., 'Asthamikatha Pakalukal' (The days that never set) with lead role by late Prem Nazir and 'Anthichuvappu' (The Scarlet Dusk), the National award winner Padmasree Mr. Mammootty in the lead, which were box office hits.

Kurian Varnasala has also stepped into publicity designing and has designed for more than 500 films including Hindi, Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam. Mr. Kurian's contribution to this most sensitive aspect of film industry is highlighted in the CD titled "75 years of Malayalam Cinema", released by Government of Kerala Chalachitra Academy. In addition to the above he also ventured into the distribution of Malayalam & Tamil films catering to the needs of Indian theatres and film viewers as well. With the vast experience and technical know-how acquired in the course of his career in film making, he thought of materializing his 'dream project' of depicting the life of "Jesus Christ" based on the New Testament of Holy Bible titled 'PESAHA' (THE PASS OVER). To make the script of 'PESAHA' (THE PASS OVER) Mr. Kurian Varnasala visited USA, Germany, Rome, Vatican, France and met many Bishops and Cardinals and discussed about the project. He received valuable suggestions and opinions from them for the "Purity of the Vision".
